Half the problem with avoiding the kitchen is the perceived notion that it is too big a hassle to shop and cook for one person. On the contrary shopping and cooking can be as fun as you make it. Get creative and start exploring markets to see what’s on offer. Try out new and exciting recipes and you will soon begin to enjoy cooking healthy meals. Why not get together with friends and suggest cooking expeditions where you try out new dishes?

Eating out all the time can be a very expensive proposition and unless you are fabulously rich, it is possible to eat well and at a much cheaper rate than what you spend on restaurants. The trick is to find out what dishes you really like and make enough for two or three meals. Divide up the portions and store in air tight containers in the refrigerator or the deep freeze if you don’t plan to eat it up over the next 3 to 4 days. In this way you can cook healthy meals on just two days of the week and eat well for all seven days.

What you need to do is set up nutrition goals for yourself. In other words you need to identify all the foods that will provide essential vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and omega 3 fatty acids to the body. Most of our nutrients come from food so stop eating foods drowned in oil or cooked without any regard for your health. Only you can care for your own health.

If you are a meat eater, the ground beef will need replacing with ground turkey meat, which is a healthier option with far less fat content. If you want fried chicken why not try baking it with a crisp topping such as bread crumbs to give it that perfect, crunchy finish.

The more vegetables you consume the better for you, so stock up on as many fresh vegetables as you can. Add a soup and salad to your meal and you will be adding a lot of nutrients to every meal you cook at home. Minestrone soup is a very healthy soup filled with veggies and white beans. Make the soup with a base of vegetable stock and you will be consuming plenty of nourishment.
